Covering it live with "Cover It Live"

E-mail Print PDF

So, its the eve of yet another couple of US Primaries, and as usual, I'll be conducting my live, opinionated, and at times, skewed blog of the events as they unfold.  However, tonight's live blog comes with a twist, in the fact that it is actually live.  Thanks to my friends over at coveritlive.com, I'm trialling a new blogging technology which shows my new posts in real time, without the need to refresh, but whats more, you'll be able to interact with me directly from the live blog page!

Fuel Prices; The US Has it Easy

E-mail Print PDF

ImageI’ve heard many reports from the US media, and from US consumers about the unacceptable rising prices of fuel within the United States.  Now, you see, CNNMoney.com reports that the average price of a gallon of unleaded fuel (gasoline) is around $3.227.  So, for this article to make sense, lets take a look at some important conversions; 1 Gallon = 4.54 Litres & 1 Pound Sterling (£) = 1.96 US Dollars ($)

If the current US average fuel price were converted to British Pound Sterling, I’d be paying £1.64GBP for a gallon of fuel.

Wrexham & Shropshire Railway

E-mail Print PDF

ImageA new train operating company launched this week, providing direct rail services from Wrexham in North Wales, to London's Marylebone station.  Using a strange train consist, a class 67, a rake of three coaches, and a DVT at the other end, the trains look like a condensed Euston - Birmingham service of the early to mid 90's.  The route takes the service from Wrexham, stopping at Ruabon, Chirk, Gobowen, Shrewsbury, Wellington (Shropshire), Telford, Cosford, Wolverhampton, Tame Bridge Parkway and then through to Banbury and London Marylebone.

Another U-Turn by PM Brown

E-mail Print PDF

ImageSo, a blatant u-turn in Parliament, even though the Parliamentary Labour Party, and indeed, the Prime Minister deny that it’s the case regarding the 10p base rate of tax.  The abolition of the 10p rate will doubtlessly hurt a lot of hard working, low paid people in Britain, not to mention a large band of pensioners.  So what on earth was Gordon Brown, then Chancellor of the Exchequer thinking when he planned it in his final budget.  And why did he do it by stealth?

Humphrey Lyttelton: 1921 - 2008

ImageThe I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue host, and Jazz legend Humphrey Lyttelton has passed away.  A statement on his website said: "Humph died peacefully with his family and friends around him on April 25th at 7.00pm following surgery."  I have personally been to many recordings of the satirical antidote to panel games, I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, and will miss his unique presentational style, wit and humour.  My thoughts are with his family and close friends.  Rest in peace Humph.

Pennsylvania Primaries: LIVE commentary from a British Perspective

E-mail Print PDF

ImageFrom midnight on 23rd April, I provided a live blog with views and analysis from a british perspective as the results emerged from the Pennsylvania primaries... Along with my sometimes skewed views and opinions many people got in touch via this site, and also via CNN's iReport to give me their take on the US elections.  You can read the full blog, minute by minute, including some of the views of those who were reading that night by clicking here!  You can also email me your comments to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Network Programming & Co-Location Killing Local Radio: UPDATE

E-mail Print PDF

ImageSo, only days after I delved into the upcoming world of networked programming and co-location on local radio throughout the United Kingdom, Global Radio have announced that an afternoon show on its "One network" is to be networked.  The "One network" is GCap's bouquet of local radio stations, including the likes of Marcher Sound, Orchard FM, through to larger stations such as BRMB and Capital Radio.

Network Programming & Co-Location Killing Local Radio

E-mail Print PDF

ImageSeveral announcements over the past few weeks have all but signalled the end of true local radio, other than for the die-hard, and for the majority, strugging independent local stations.  Global Radio, CN Group, Oak FM and even Splash FM & Bright FM are all either going network programming, co-locate or in some circumstances, both.  In this blog, I'm going to take a look at the recent announcements, what they mean for the stations and area's involved, and give my opinions on this latest development in UK Radio.

New Blogging System

E-mail Print PDF

Well, as promised, I have set up a new blogging system on my site.  Its not really worth this blog post to be honest, but I wanted to check it out and make sure it worked okay!!!  Obviously, there is likely to be a few bugs that I'm going to need ironing out, for example, the commenting system is no longer working, which I will need to fix, and a few other additions which I need to make that I have yet to do.   Anyway, I hope you like the new blog experience!
